Progress Made & Present Position
(a) In October TAC reviewed the road safety strategy and endorsed proposals to reconstitute the Standing Conference on Road Safety as a Road Safety Council.
(b) ExCo has accepted in principle
that seat belt wearing should be made compulsory. Drafting instructions have been issued.
(c) TAC has endorsed proposals to
require the fitting of reflective number plates on vehicles. Draft amendment regulations have been prepared by Attorney General's Chambers.
(a) revised Driving-Offence Points
Bill has been drawn up; UMELCO previously indicated that they are prepared to consider this after scrutiny of the Road Traffic Bill.
(e)
The annual pedestrian problem spots review has been completed and will be submitted to the Standing Conference on Road Use preparatory to being considered by TAC.
Next Quarter Targets
(a) Submit to ExCo.
