Purpose
CITY & NEW TERRITORIES ADMINISTRATION BRANCH PROGRESS REPORT
To improve the impact of administration at the
district level and stimulate a greater degree of local consul- tation and participation in district affairs.
(1st May 1982 to 31st July 1982)
Progress Made & Present Position
New Territories
The statutory NTDBS are holding bi-monthly meetings and attending to district matters.
Target for Next Quarter
To continue to publicize
and monitor the work of NT District Boards and the
performance of both official and unofficial members.
Hong Kong & Kowloon
(a) As at 28.6.82, a total of
706,833 persons (representing 35.3% of the eligible voters) have registered as urban area District Board voters.
(Note: the figure is slightly less than that quoted in the last report because of duplicate registrations).
(b) Detailed procedure for
appointment of urban DB members 1982-85 has been worked out.
(c) Central publicity arrange- ments have been worked out to encourage suitable persons to stand for election. By mid-July, about 180 people have indicated an interest in standing.
(a) To sustain public
interest in and media support for the urban DB elections in Sept. 1982 and to continue to publicize the work of DBS.
(b) To continue to monitor
the work of DBS and performance of official and unofficial members and to process appoint- ments to the urban DBS
for 1982-85.
(c) To encourage suitable
persons to stand for the urban DB elections.
