Progress Made and Present Position

c) With every possibility of a continuing inflow

of refugees from Vietnam, and a sharp reduction in the likely outflow for resettlement, 1982 could be a difficult year for the Administration.

d) Kai Tak East Camp was closed in December 1981 and is now occupied by the Housing Department to house squatter fire victims. Ma Tau Wei Camp was reopened on 10.11.81 but will be closed again before the end of the 1st quarter of 1982 and kept in reserve.

}

Next Quarter's Target

c) To press UNHCR on the

provision of more resettlement places; and to work with them to achieve speedy

submission of cases to the US Refugee Programme

d) To consider increasing

the present capacity of Kai Tak North Camp.

e) To consider a fallback

position in the event of an unacceptably high rate of inflow this year.
