Progress Made and Present Position

d) Customs/Immigration control at Shaukiwan under

consideration. Control arrangements for Xizhong Marina finalized.

e) A Sub-committee of the Marine Links with China

Working Group established under D of M's chairman- ship to manage international ferry terminals (especially Tai Kok Tsui). Regulations concerning the Security of international ferry terminals in final draft.

f) Port Security Committee has started to review

Security arrangements throughout the ports of HK.

a) 787 refugees arrived and 2,858 left for overseas

resettlement during the quarter. At 31.1.82 there were 11,532 refugees in UNHCR camps or supported by UNHCR; 69 in Jubilee Reception Centre (JRC) under processing by Immigration Department are supported by HKG.

b) 20 Vietnamese who had formerly been settled in

China arrived during this quarter, bringing the total in this category to 3,273.

d) To seek financial approval for 2 additional patrol launches for Immigration Department and to keep general situation under review.

UNHCR for the speedy resettlement of refugees.

b) Arrangements are being

made to repatriate some 2,300 ex-China cases to China, early in March 1982. To continue to negotiate with CPG authorities to accept the repatriation of the remainder.
