LANDS AND WORKS BRANCH PROGRESS REPORT

1st February 1982 to 30th April 1982

Purpose

To provide up-to-date information on the present and future availability of land for all purposes in a land production programme.

To prepare a strategy for development of new areas having regard to : (a) the development

potential of these areas;

(b) Government's policy objectives; and

(c) resource constraints

Progress Made & Present Position

The Special Committee on Land Supply met on 26.3.82 to recon- sider papers on land require- ments for industry and housing in the light of a critical review of assumptions used in deriving land production requirements. The Working Group on Frivate Sector Participation in Land Production submitted its report to the Chief Secretary in early March 1982. Draft ExCo memorandum circulated for comments.

Following LDPC's agreement to the creation of a land use/ transportation optimisation (LUTO) model to test a large number of population distribu- tion options in broad economic terms relative to land develop- ment and transport implications, a special LUTO team has been formed and consultants appointed to participate in development of a methodology.

Next Quarter Targets

SCLS to meet in May 1982 to consider a draft of the 1982 Report to the Goverr›r Submit report to H.E. in May 1982 and publish in June 1986 Recommendations of Working Group on Private Sector

Farticipation in Lad Production to be co- sidered by ExCo in May 1982.
