In Hong Kong, 248 candidates shortlisted from

1998 applicants were invited to a preliminary interview

and 60 of them were selected for the final intensive

interviews which took place in April. The Board considered

32 candidates definitely suitable for appointment, of

whom 22 were deemed to have potential to reach Staff Grade

C level. The advice of the Public Service Commission

will be sought on the Board's report in May.

13.

Interviews of 30 local candidates in London

and 3 in Boston are scheduled to be held in May. The

Chairman of the Hong Kong Selection Board, Mr. J.C.A. Hammond

will participate in these interviews.

The results are

expected to be known in June. The recruitment of overseas

candidates through CSC is in progress.

A total of 54

candidates who have passed or are exempted from the

Qualifying Test have expressed an interest in joining the

Administrative Service in Hong Kong. Among them, 20 have

given Hong Kong as their first preference and 34 have given

it as their second choice.
