SIR EDWARD YOUDE, GOVERNOR-DESIGNATE, HONG KONG
1. As you know, Sir Edward Youde has been appointed to succeed Sir Murray MacLehose as Governor, Hong Kong. He is expected to take up office in May 1982 for an initial period of 5 years. We wish to give him an estimate of his superannuation benefits under the Governors' Pension Scheme and the Principal Civil Service Pension Scheme and should be grateful therefore if you could provide details based on a 5 year term of office from say mid-May 1982. You may recall that you and Mr West provided similar details and advice on alternatives under the GPS in the case of Sir Peter Ramsbotham, formerly Governor, Bermuda.
2.
The present salary of the Governor, Hong Kong is HK$613,200 per annum (approximately £57,850 per annum at HK$10.6 = £1).
