Woman Police Constable 18171 POON Yuk-ling will state that she was on 'C' shift duty from 2300 hrs on 14.1.80 to 0700 hrs 15.1.80 in the Report Room of Homantin Police Station. At some time between 0130 and 0200 hrs she received a phone call from a man whom she understood to be Inspector MacLennan attached to CID. He requested to be called at 0530 hrs in the morning. He gave her the telephone number of his home. She wrote the message down on the availability board in the Report Room.
She went for a tea break at 0500 - 0600 but she will state that she knew that PC 19159 was instructed to ring the deceased in the morning. She will further state that when the deceased rang up the station his voice sounded tired. She heard no sounds in the background.

Police Constable 19159 LAM Mei-kuen will state that he was also on 'C' Shift duty in the Report Room of Homantin Police. Station on the night of 14th/15th January 1980. He will state that some time that shift he was asked by WPC 18171 to telephone the deceased to wake him up. At 0532 he telephoned the number shown on the board. He remembers the number began with 03. A European answered the phone saying that he was the deceased but appearing confused. It seemed to PC 19159 that the deceased could not fully understand what he was saying. He repeated what he had said in a clearer voice and then the deceased said "thank you". The deceased sounded very tired, and he spoke with a slow voice. He will also state that he deceased may have had difficulty in understanding him the first time he spoke as his English was not very good.

He will state that he only heard the deceased's voice and he heard no other sounds in the background.

Station Sergeant LI Chi-man was the duty officer on 'C' shift on the night of 14th/15th January 1980. He will confirm the telephone call to the deceased's quarter at 0535 hrs. He will state that at 0555 hrs the deceased came to the Report Room and showed him his warrant card and told him that he was Insp. MacLennan, that he was going on a raid and that he wanted a revolver. He will state that the deceased spoke quickly and that he could not understand him so the deceased spelt out R.A.I.D. He then said "Oh Sir, I recognize you". He did not think it necessary to ask him details of the raid. He then telephoned the Armoury PC 8830 and told him that the deceased was coming down to collect a revolver and to give him one. The deceased then left the Report Room and he did not see him again.
65.
Police Constable 8830 LEE Hok-lun was the Armoury PC from 2245 hrs on 14.1.80 to 0700 hrs on 15.1.80. He will state that at 0556 hrs on 15.1.80 he received a phone call from S/Sgt. LI Chi-man telling him that a Detective Inspector MacLennan would
