The maximum term of imprisonment that may be

imposed for offences relating to various forged or false

immigration documents under section 42 of the principal

Ordinance is 7 years. The increase of this maximum to

14 years, which is the other object of the Bill, is

effected by clause 3.

The third object of the Bill is effected by

clause 4, which will enable police officers to exercise

the powers of immigration officers under section 56(1A)

of the principal Ordinance.

5.

The Bill has no financial or staffing implications.
