On 2nd April 1981 a motorised wooden fishing junk (with auxiliary sail) sized 8 by 1.5 metres; registration number BTT 0102 entered Hong Kong with 46 passengers.

2.

The passengers consisted of two separate groups, 30 ethnic Vietnamese who had travelled from Hue, Central Vietnam on the wooden fishing junk, and 16 Vietnamese Chinese who had been placed aboard by the authorities in Macau. This report deals with the latter group only.

3. They had reportedly all come from the No.5 Production Brigade, Xinglung (5281/712) District, Dawang (1129/2489) Overseas Chinese Farms, Sihui County, Guangdong Province.
