6. Source commented that most Overseas Chinese knew about Dawang Farm as an escape centre, and that four or five boats departed for Macau and Hong Kong daily (sic). In Source's opinion, the Chinese authorities allowed Overseas Chinese to escape from time to time, and would "turn a blind eye" to escape activities. Such a time was now being enjoyed in the Dawang area, and according to Source may Overseas Chinese would take advantage of the situation before there was a change of policy.
LM 1353 - Information
General
7. The total of 57 passengers in this group were originally three separate groups when they left China. One group came from Longwan (3186/3494) Overseas Chinese Farm (OCF), Longan (7127/1344) County, Guangxi Province, the second from Fenyoung (1164/0516) OCF, Haikang (3189/1660) County on the Leizhou (7191/1558) Peninsula, and the third was from Dawang OCF. All departed from Dawang in escapes organised in a similar way to L/M 1352. After their arrival in Macau they were combined into one group by the Macau authorities and given a Vietnamese type boat (a "Thuyen Tau") for their onward passage to Hong Kong.
8. Several members of the group were interviewed, and their accounts were typical of those previously told by escapees from Dawang. All told of the availability of boats for sale to Overseas Chinese, of the susceptibility of militia personnel to bribing from escaping Overseas Chinese and the cooperation of local residents in the escape plans. The new information specifying names
of organisers and syndicates came to light. LM 1356

The Escape from China
10.
