1. In my letter of 16 December I said that Information Department are arranging a Category II visit for Mr Wong. This went ahead as planned and appears to have been highly successful. You should have already received a copy of his programme.

2. Mr Wong has told us that he has written a number of articles for the People's Daily on the basis of information and impressions gained during his visit. He is very much into British industry and will be visiting BSC Head Office and the DOI in the next few weeks.

3. As regards his future intentions, his hope is to stay in London long enough to cover the Royal Wedding! He is negotiating this with the NCNA in Hong Kong in order to cover the event for two Hong Kong newspapers Ta Kung Pao and Wen Wei Po. He seems to be getting over his loneliness and, according to all reports, has taken well to life in this country, so much so in fact that he is hoping to be posted back here as a member of the NCNA Bureau. He does not now expect to spend any time in Peking but to return to Hong Kong briefly and then to be posted out again. This, I think, makes him the more interesting from our point of view.
4.
I shall keep you informed of developments.
