13.

Validating Advisory Teams

CNAA has considered the typical size of the validating advisory teams which are likely to be required

to make the necessary judgements. For the courses of which CNAA is currently aware, it is proposed that CNAA would call on about six appropriate members, of whom one might be the Chief Officer, supported by a professional secretary drawn from the CNAA staff. CNAA would not normally wish to submit reports with less than five members contributing and thus suggests a norm of six to allow for last minute fall-out from teams. It is also considered that, in addition to the CNAA teams selected with particular reference to their subject expertise, Hong Kong must also play a part in validation. This would be achieved by HKG nominating 2 or 3 of members for CNAA appointment to the validating advisory team. (See also paragraph 2.3 above).

14. London Meetings

It would clearly be wasteful of resources to bring a validating advisory team to Hong Kong if there is already evidence from a careful study of the Polytechnic's proposals that one or more major deficiencies exist. It would clearly be sensible to carry out initial evaluation of each degree proposal in London to establish that there is a prima facie case for detailed discussion with the staff in Hong Kong allied to appraisal of the supporting facilities. It is proposed that all course proposals should be screened at meetings set up in London for the purpose shortly after the receipt of the appropriate documents. The setting up of
