TECHNICIAN SUPPORT

The technician support available to staff in the Baptist College is insufficient and this puts more responsibility on the academic staff for the preparation, and development of practical work. (see 12 above).

LIBRARY

In the Baptist College the library is small and is not able to provide a good service to staff and students. The journals are not on open access and this may be the reason why it appears that neither staff nor students make much use of them. The books are dated with the exception of the more limited selection available in the reserve collection and students find that they lack access to relevant books. It would obviously be better if the library facilities could be improved but in terms of the requirements made of the library by the course it does seem, sadly, that it is adequate for the use made of it.

The Polytechnic library is a spacious, gracious building eminently suitable as a centre for students' academic study. The store of books is good and the stock of journals is adequate.

COMPUTING FACILITIES

The Computing facilities at the Baptist College are very poor. There are now 10 new PET Microcomputers in the Computer Centre but these shared throughout the College are quite inadequate. The access to the small and dated central computer is not good.

21.2 More disappointing though is the fact that despite the

very analytical nature of the course little use is made by the staff in the Civil Engineering department of the Computer facilities.
