Response by CAAC
2.3
After a short period of discussion during which CAAC confirmed that the Trident had beep satisfactorily considered,
(The comments Mr. Li said that he wished to give his comments.
Y
appeared to be a prepared statement).
(1)
CAAC appreciated that the intention of establishing new routes from Lung Kwu Chau VOR to Hanoi, and from Tathong VOR to Shanghai, was to reduce the load on the Canton Hong Kong route, but advised that detailed procedures would need to be looked at in greater depth in future.
•
(2). The present route Canton to Hong Kong was
a uni-directional set of routes, whereas under the proposed diversification this would become more .complicated and will need be investigated in great depth.
(3) The increase in the number of transfer
points (between Hong Kong and Canton ATC) must be studied further in depth between Hong Kong and FRC.
(4) CAAC have no views on the design of the
airport or the obstacle evaluation in the Chek Lap Kok environs, but would like to give their views on airspace aspects.
(5) In particular, he wished to comment on the
approach of runway 07 and the Lung Kwu Chau holding point, both of which require.con- trolled airspace to extend beyond the present control airspace boundary. This must be processed through Government diplomatic channels before it could be agreed. It involved issues concerning territorial waters and islands in the Pearl River Estuary.
(6) CAAC wished to point out that Macau was
planning a row airport. Furthermore, that the PRC was also considering construction of a new airport in the Bac An (76 On) area (just North of the I-PRO Lorder). With three airports the chance of conflict would be very high. Although the latter two sirports have not reached the detailed
planning stage, both were likely to be us large as Chek Lap Kok.
