Replacement Airport

Report on a visit to CAAC in Guangzhou, 1:7.81

1.1:

The visit was undertaken by a team consisting of Mr. G.T. Oliver, AD(T&P) (CAD), Mr. P. Lok,' ATGM (CAD), Messrs Million (RMP), Groves (CAA), Sexton (CAA) and Eng (RMF). The objective was for CAA, as airspace management sub-consultants, to discuss technical aspects of airspace management with representatives of the CAAC.

The group was met at Canton Airport by Mr. Li and Mr. Ma and assisted through arrival processing. We were informed of the CAAC representation at the meeting, and that the mecting would commence at 2.30 pm. Transport was provided to take the group to the Dong Tang Hotel.

2.2

Short presentations were given by Messrs. Oliver, Million, Sexton and Groves with Mr. Eng providing translation. Copies are attached. CAAC were also given six copies of the Executive Summary report of the 1970 Feasibilities Study. CAAC participants were attentive, noticeably more so when the need for expansion of Hong Kong's Terminal Control Area westwards and northwards beyond its present limits was raised towards the end of Mr. Groves presentation.
