Resulting 1931 Patronage Estimates The Corporation's fare revenue budget is 550M for 1981 and to achieve this revenue with the fares outlined above the patronage will need to increase from the current level of just over 550,000 to 800,000/900,000 by the end of 1981. These figures are consistent with the Government and Corporation objective mentioned in XCC (79)45 of 350,000 passengers a day travelling on the IS in 1981 and one million per day not long thereafter. Such patronage increases are predicted to be achievable should the cross harbour bus fares increase from $1.50 to $2.00 and the main Kowloon fares from $0.50 to $1.00. If bus fares are increased by smaller amounts or increased much later in the year then more substantial progress towards improved feeder services and redeployment of buses would be necessary. The transport services provided by the ITR and the bus companies should always complement each other in order to maximise the use of existing resources.
