Mr Clift asked for the papers on RIC's visit to Hong Kong and DOI's support for VRA on exports of TV sets from Hong Kong to be listed and flagged. They are as follows:

a)

DOI's brief on Consumer Electronics for Sir Keith Joseph's recent visit to Hong Kong. This suggests that the Hong Kong Colour TV manufacturers pose a threat to UK industry, and that Sir Keith should press for 'a system of orderly marketing of Colour TV's. The brief was not cleared with HKGD. We were sent copies only of the textiles brief and the steering brief, which gave no indication of the line to be taken on electronics. (The confirm the need to ask to me als drafts of bros in future pfud).

b) Mr Atkinson's telno Indus 284 of 25 September to Derek March describing the intentions of RIC and Mr Baker. This was not cleared with HKGD.
