In answer to Mr. Dorward, Mr. Hewitt said that he did not know whether the UK required imports of consumer electronic products to be accompanied by C of Os. This problem should, however, be solved when the law requiring all consumer produqts to be marked with their country of origin comes into effect in 1982.

Mr. Dickman explained that for the Department's information, he was aware in his capacity as member of the European Association of Electronics Industry, that the industry in Europe was putting pressure on the EEC Commission to curb imports of Japanese colour tubes. The UK industry held the view that such actions would be ineffectual because of the diversionary effects. It was, therefore, pushing for a global action.

Mr. Hewitt again thanked Mr. Dorward for his advice and agreement to assist and the meeting was adjourned at 12.10 p.m.
