Aircraft Engineering
The industry has a high international reputation and provides maintenance, and repair facilities for most airlines operating in Asia. Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Co. Ltd., the larger of the two com- panies offering such services, provides facilities for complete air-frame and engine overhaul of many types of aircraft.
Development of New Industries
The Government welcomes the establishment of new and sophisticated industries which will broaden Hong Kong's industrial base. With this in mind, it has a policy which enables relatively land intensive and high technology industries to be accommodated (see Section 3).
Many of our industries have the potential for diversification and substantial growth. The present stage of Hong Kong's development suggests that the ones which provide good prospects for the potential investor are:
light and medium heavy engineering indus- tries producing such goods as watches and clocks, safety razors, office machines, packaging machines, photographic and optical goods, precision instru- ments, light industrial engines, automotive com- ponents, domestic appliances, machine tools, pneumatic and hydraulic control devices; industries providing high quality supporting and servicing facilities such as metal casting, forging, electroplating, tool and die making, preci- sion machining and heat treatment; and
the electronics industry producing sophisticated goods such as computers, television sets, industrial automation controls, advanced consumer electronic goods, audio video systems, telecommunications equipments, micro-processors, printed circuit boards, electronic modules, integrated circuits and other electronics components.
It must be emphasised that these are only examples.
