Chinese Investments in Hong Kong

The two go-down sites referred to are NKILS 5805 and 5806 in Kowloon Bay, sold to Hong Tai Yuen Ltd at auction on 29.9.80 for $170 m. and $180 m. respectively. An outline plan is attached showing the sites edged in blue.

2.

The most comprehensive list of Chinese investments in Hong Kong is that provided in the China News Report prepared by the Public Relations Sub-division of GIS, You are, I think, on the distribution list. The last report on this specific subject was prepared in August 1980 but I am sure DIS can provide you with an updated version.

3.

Since the beginning of 1980, Environment Branch has kept a record of Chinese purchases, at auction or tender, of industrial/go-down land (primarily to know what cargo-handling facilities are being acquired). However, because a variety of companies may be used to make the purchases, we rely to some extent on press reports to gauge whether the sale is to a PRC organisation. To date, there seem to have only been three such sales the two Kowloon Bay lots referred to above and a 3200 m site at Winslow Street, Hung Hom, for public parking of lorries and go-down use, sold in January 1980 by auction to Hip Yee Go-down Co. (HK) Ltd. for $116 m.
