The registration of three more communist schools,

which have not been active for over

a year, has been

cancelled. There remain 26 local communist schools (22 active

and 4 inactive) with a total of about 15,000 students (about

one per cent of the total school population of Hong Kong).

A request was made to the Government by the Anglican Bishop

of Hong Kong for assistance in redeveloping the premises of

one of the leading schools, the Mongkok Workers Children's

Communist education circles are currently placing

emphasis on extra-curricular activities and moral training

in schools in order to combat the growing importance attached

by the children to the acquisition of wealth and status.

Applications have been invited from overseas Chinese

and from persons in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan to sit the

entrance examinations for Chinese universities, which are

to be held in June in Guangzhou and two other cities.
