Guangdong has agreed to supply electricity to meet
additional demands in Macau from mid 1982. A new 42 megawatt
power station is to be built in the Special Economic Zone of Zhuhai, funded by an interest free loan of $200 m. from Macau.
Guangdong has rejected an offer by a Japanese industrial group
to build another power station in the Province on the grounds
that electricity requirements will be met by other arrangements.
Investment in China

According to a press report, Trafalgar Housing Limited,
Unusually,
a major Hong Kong development firm, has acquired the lease of
a 40,000 square foot site in Shenzhen for about $20 m.
Trafalgar has no Chinese partner in this transaction and obtained
the land in its own name alone. The site will be used for a
commercial and residential complex and the lease runs for 30 years
initially, with opportunity for renewal for a further 20 years.

There are strong hints in statements by the Governor and
the Party First Secretary of Guangdong that the Guangdong
authorities will designate Hainan Island as the Province's fourth
Special Economic Zone.
Communications
16.
An agreement has been signed between Cable and Wireless
and the Guangdong Posts and Telecommunications Bureau for a joint
venture to instal a high capacity microwave system between
Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou. The system, which is due
