1. China Overseas Building Corporation Limited
It was reported on November 20, 1980 that in a development which should
establish Hong Kong as a major base for planning and coordinating China's overseas
construction and civil engineering projects, the China Overseas Building Corporation
Limited (TRA), a branch of the China Construction Company (+) financed by Beijing's China Construction Engineering Corporation

( 中國建築工程總局) under the State Capital Construction Commission (中國基本
建設委員會
REA), had opened its headquarters in Hong Kong.
The Corporation would conduct feasibility studies on projects and negotiate
overseas contracts before their final signature in Beijing. It had been working on private housing projects such as Fairview Park in Yuen Long and Hong Lo Yuen in Tai Po.
Operating on the principle of cooperation with local contractors, the corporation would employ Hong Kong construction workers in all local projects.
2. Chung Wah Ship Building and Engineering Company
The Chung Wah Ship Building and Engineering Company (tƒ*) and the Golden Peak Maritime Agency Limited (A) have jointly invested $240 million in a joint venture, the Euroasia Ship Building Company (
on Tsing Yi Island, which is expected to be in operation in 1981. The cost of land for the construction of a shipyard there amounts to $80 million, representing one-third of the total investment.
The services to be provided by the new company will include ship maintainance and repairs, shipbuilding and construction of oil rigs.
It was reported on April 16, 1981 that the company had signed a contract with two American companies for the construction of an off-shore drilling platform worth more than $250 million (US$50 million).

The Guangdong Shipbuilding Company
The Guangdong Shipbuilding Company (* # * ) has assigned. the Hong Kong - Guangzhou Shipping Company (##### A J :) to promote its shipbuilding activities, which are concentrated in the construction of all types of tugs ranging from 150 to 13 600 horse-power.

China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation
It was reported on February 14, 1981 that the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation ( @## I would send a group of technicians and

engineers to the Hong Kong Guangzhou Shipbuilding Industry Corporation ( # #
穗 船舶公司) in Hong Kong in March.
The group would undertake preparatory work for the setting up of a Hong Kong branch office for the Chinese company, and would act as representatives of the company in negotiations with foreign businessmen.
