DESCRIPTION OF CONSULTANT STUDIES
TIN SHUI WAI
Two major consultant studies have been commissioned as a basis for the proposed development at Tin Shui Wai. The main study relates to the preparation of an Integrated Urban Development Plan and the other parallel study will examine alternative methods of Land Preparation. An Activity Chart showing the make-up and inter-relationship of the studies is attached.
Integrated Urban Development Plan
The Shankland Cox Partnership in association with Binnie & Partners and Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co have been retained by Trafalgar Housing as project manager, for the development consortium, to undertake planning studies for the development of Tin Shui Wai.
Their principal objective is to prepare an integrated urban development plan for a substantial new town provid- ing a modern and well planned living and working environ- ment. This plan would be based on sound social economic and planning principles with due consideration to the particular physical and environmental conditions of the area, as well as Government's plans for the sub-region.
In order to undertake this work a multi-disciplinary team of planners, engineers, economists, and management experts has been formed. A project office has already been set up in Hong Kong and the team of some 40 members will commence their work during February. It is envisaged that the study will take 9 months to complete.
The study will be completed in three stages. At the end of each stage the conclusions of the particular aspects studied will be reported and seminars, at which Government will be invited to participate, will be organised.
Stage One - Proposed Development Package
Stage one studies will be concerned with the content and impact of the proposed development and will consist mainly of data collection and analysis. They will be completed at the end of May and will comprise the following main elements:
studies into the regional context of the proposed town with particular reference to communications, land fill, water supply and general planning parameters. demographic studies including an assessment of popula-
tion structure, social mix and labour force.
