The Prime Minister of Australia was to have paid an official visit in October together with a visit to the Conservative Party Conference. He had to cancel both. the Conservative Party renew their invitation to him next year it would be appropriate to renew the official invitation as well. The Prime Minister of Jamaica may pay a working visit during next year. The question of a visit by the Prime Minister of Poland is the subject of separate correspondence.
As you know, our Ambassador in the United States
believes that President Reagan is planning a European tour next year, having been invited by the Germans and probably the French. We are consulting the Palace about dates which might be convenient for The Queen, so that we can renew our invitation for 1982.
Further Suggestions
Mr Chambers has emerged the victor in the elections in Trinidad and Tobago which is the latest of a string of moderate election victories in the Caribbean over the last two years and an encouraging move away from Cuba. This is by far our best Caribbean market. There is a case for an invitation.
