3. PROGRAMME

An outline programme giving the dates for the visits to each country is given at Appendix I.

a)

PASSPORTS/VISAS

Each member of the delegation must be in possession of a valid passport.

b) A visa is required for China only. Application for the visas will be made by Conference Section on behalf of the complete UK delegation by a formal letter to the Chinese Embassy. All the passports will be enclosed with this covering letter. Would all members of the delegation, therefore, please send their passports to the undersigned. (NB News Department will arrange the necessary visas for the accompanying journalists).

5. HEALTH REQUIREMENTS

a)

The Treasury Medical Advisory Service state that inoculations are not compulsory, but they recommend inoculations against cholera and typhoid in respect of all the countries to be visited. However, anyone who has had previous TAB inoculations and is now over the age of 35 may discontinue the boosting procedure.

b) Persons requiring inoculations may make appointments with the Civil Service Medical Advisory Service, Petty France (tel: 213 3548).

c)

The Treasury Medical Advisory Service recommend that anti-malaria pills should be taken for the visits to all countries. The Conference Officer will distribute supplies of Paludrine to all members of the delegation before the party leaves the UK. The dosage should commence 48 hours before arrival in the particular area.

CLIMATE AND CLOTHING

Pakistan

Climate: Day temperatures will be into low 80s F. Conditions will be generally dry but there may be thunderstorms.

Clothing:

Tropical weight clothing for day and evening wear is advisable. Ladies should wear long dresses in the evenings. Long sleeves are advisable and low necked dresses should be avoided. The Post's initial advice is that black tie will not be required. However, there is now a proposal for a formal dinner on March 27 and post's recommendation on dress for this event will follow.

Hong Kong

Climate: Expected temperature 64-73°F. with 40% chance of rain.

Weather probably cloudy

Clothing: Casual dress (no jacket or tie) for New Territories visits. Post advise that black tie not essential but suitable for UMELCO dinner.
