18 March, 1981

Dear Chris

Thank you for your letter of 16 March

about the Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary's visit to Pakistan and the Far East from 26 March to 8 April.

The Prime Minister is content, subject to Government and Parliamentary business. She has agreed that Lady Carrington may accompany the Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary at public expense on this occasion, on the assumption that travel is to be by RAF aircraft. She has noted that he will be absent from Cabinet on 2 April.

I am copying this letter to Michael Pownall (Government Whips' Office, House of Lords) and Barry Hilton (Cabinet Office).

C Jebb, Esq

Yours

wen
