MR ADLEY'S PQ: ORAL ANSWER ON 15 APRIL: UK POLICY ON SELF- DETERMINATION.

1.

Mr Adley has tabled the attached question. We have been informed by the Parliamentary Unit that the question is unlikely to be reached for oral reply and we do not therefore require supplementaries.

2.

This Department's first draft reply would be:

'It is the Governments policy to respect the wishes of

peoples to determine their own future in accordance with the principles of the UN Charter.

3. We feel however that Mr Adley has something else in mind, possibly the West Bank. Although we are not putting up

supplementaries it would be useful to have your comments on this, or any other collateral aspects, for backgrounds and in case this or a similar question is tabled again.
