MADAME SOONG CHINGLING

1.

مل

Madame Soong Chingling, widow of Sun Yat-sen and recently appointed 'Honorary President' of the People's Republic of China, died on Friday 29 May. The Queen has sent a message of condolence through HM Ambassador in Peking.

2.

A book of condolence will be open at the Chinese Embassy from 10 am to 4 pm on 2, 3 and 4 June. In view of Madame Soong's unique position in Chinese life and of his own recent visit to China, it would be appropriate for the Secretary of State to sign the book if his programme permits.

3.

Although Mr Blaker is now leaving the FCO it would certainly be appreciated by the Chinese if he were to sign the book. We will also be informing the Private Offices of other Ministers who have recently visited China.
