Subject
Hong Kong Container Trade Study (LW 93/80/01 IV) (LW 93/77/06 II)
Purpose
To study the structure, operation and locational requirements of the container industry in Hong Kong so as to provide a basis for
Government to formulate a strategy for the future provision and allocation of land to container related users.
Progress Made & Present Position
A consultancy study commenced on 1.12.80 and the final report was submitted at the beginning of July. The consultants' recommendations include:
(a) the provision of an additional 22
hectares of land for container- related use to maximise the throughtout of the existing terminals, and
(b) an extension of the existing
facilities at Kwai Chung by further reclamation to provide up to three additional berths by 1986.
An ExCo paper submitting proposals for implementation of the consultants' recommendations is now being finalised.
Next Quarter Targets
To submit proposals to ExCo and to initiate implementation of the consultants' recommenda- tions.
