Corridor Transit System (CR 1/5591/80)

Purpose

To respond to requests by KMB and CMB for fares increases.

In order to resolve the transport problems of Hong Kong Island's north shore :-

(a) to examine the alternative proposals

for a Light Rail Transit (LRT) Systems and a Short Island Line (SIL) of the MTR to decide on the most appropriate system.

(b)

to investigate in detail implemen- tation of the strategy recommended by the Island Corridor Study to resolve the transport problems

of Hong Kong Island's north shore.

Progress & Present Position

TAC paper on KMB fares issued after prolonged departmental consideration on 16.1.81. TAC has met four times in January to consider the paper. TAC paper on CMB is under preparation.

The proposal to construct an Island MTR Line from Western Market to Chai Wan was accepted by ExCo on 23.12.80.

Next Quarter Targets

(a) Seek TAC's advice on

CMB proposals.

(b) Submit paper to ExCo

on KMB and CMB fares.

Assist with implementation and consider interim transport arrangements.
