Modernisation of the KCR

Purpose

To electrify the KCR in conjunction with a programme of capital works to

(CR 56/5591/74) improve the carrying capacity of the (ENV 40/05/39)

railway.

Progress Made & Present Position

Next Quarter Targets

(a) The programme for electrification

ramains

(i) completion of an 'inner suburban

service to Fo Tan by March 1982, or earlier, if possible; (ii) completion of electification to Lo Wu by the end of 1982.

(b) The Coordination Group which deals

with progress and outstanding problems on the overall project has met twice during the quarter to consider adherence to timetables of contracts and contract letting, and progress of main component items.

(c) GMR(SD) appointed with effect from

26.1.81 to take over project management within a new office, the Railway Development Office, in the PWD in advance of creation of a post of Controller of Railway Development.

(d) The KCR Programme Plan Steering

Group did not meet in the quarter under review.

(a)

(b) Continue to serve on the Group.

(c) Obtain approval for creation of post of Controller of Railway Development.

(d) Steering Group to

meet to consider :- (i) 1981/82 programme; (ii) Freight terminal

facilities-planning; (iii) Tuen Mun link; (iv) Proposal for

station at Hong Lok Yuen;

(v) Temporary alignment

at Tai Wai.
