6. Development strategy

Purpose

To provide up-to-date information on the present and future avail- ability of land for all purposes in a land production programme.

To prepare a strategy for develop- ment of new areas having regard to (ENV(SPU)70/62/02) (a) the development potential of

these areas;

(b) Government's policy objectives;

and

(c) resource constraints

Progress Made & Present Position

Next Quarter Targets

a) Special Committee on Land Produc-

tion submitted its Report to the Governor for 1980 recommending targets for the production and sale of land in various land use categories and advising on the adequacy of Government projects in relation to these targets.

b) The Land Disposal Sub-Committee

continued to monitor disposals against targets, and completed the revision of the land disposal monitoring system.

c) The Land Development Policy

Committee approved implementation of the Land Inventory System in the urban areas and, for the New Territories, a trial run in the Tai Po Development Office. Tem- porary staff were recruited for the trial run.

The Working Group on Development

a) SCLP to consider

papers following up recommendations, and areas identified for further study, in the Report to the Governor. Next meeting, June 1981.

b) Monitor progress of

current land sales

programme.
