I do not think at the moment that it is worth devoting much more attention to this area, (nor am I convinced that it would be for this Branch to do so!), but for the record you may be interested to see the attached note prepared by Mrs. Tse in this Branch. Also attached is a copy of the translation of the article at the New Year in the Wen Wei Po which prompted our own line of enquiry. A propos of that, I think it is true to say that Joseph Cheng is a particularly enthusiastic proponent of the increase theory indeed he may be its chief protagonist.

A related phenomenon is the readiness of concerned people and groups to plead their cases in London. The apparent increase in this is often held to be a function of the lowering of the air fares. Whether you can identify a significant trend from that end it would be interesting to know. It might perhaps be worthwhile keeping a running log of such visits which you could from time to time send back to us for information?
