The Social welfare Department has taken two years to review and restructure the professional ranks within the Department and has implemented the necessary changes, including certain new salary scales, with effect from 1st April 1979. I should like an assurance from the Government that it is the Government's intention to treat voluntary agency staff equally and equitably with their Government counterparts; and that any salary adjustments that may arise from the present review of the voluntary sector will apply retroactively from April 1979. social workers in the voluntary sector have been generally
