Monsieur le Secrétaire d'Etat,

I have the honour to inform Your Excellency that the Government of the Swiss Confederation propose to conclude with the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland an agreement to facilitate travel between their territories.

1. This agreement will be in the following terms:

(a) Subject to the provisions of sub-paragraphs (f), (g), (h) and (i) below Swiss citizens shall be free to travel from any place whatever to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, The Channel Islands and the Isle of Man (hereinafter referred to as "the United Kingdom" without the necessity of obtaining a visa in advance provided they are furnished with one of the following documents:

(i) a valid Swiss passport; or

(ii) a Swiss identity card issued by the Cantons or the Communes

together with a British Visitor's Card; or

(iii) a valid seamen's identity document denoting the holder's Swiss nationality issued by the competent Swiss authorities provided the conditions specified in sub-paragraph (e) below are fulfilled; or (iv) in the case of children of Swiss nationality under 16 years of age who do not hold a passport or identity card, a laissez-passer issued by the authorities of any of the Cantons forming part of the Swiss Confederation together with a British Visitor's Card. Children under 16 years of age whose names are included in the Swiss in passport of one or other of their parents and are travelling in the sta company of that parent shall not require an individual identity

document.

(b) Subject to the provisions of sub-paragraphs () and (g) below Swiss citizens shall be free to travel from any place whatever to any of the territories named in Annex A" to the present Note without the necessity of obtaining a visa in advance provided they hold a valid Swiss passport.

(c) Subject to the provisions of sub-paragraphs (e), (f), (g), (h) and

(i) British subjects and British protected persons holding a valid passport bearing on the cover the inscription "British Passport" and inside the description of the holder's national status as British subject" or British subject, citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies or British subject, citizen of the United Kingdom, Islands and Colonies" or "British subject, citizen of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland or British Protected Person"; or

(ii) holders of a valid British Visitor's Passport; or

(iii) holders of a valid British seamen's identity document denoting the holder's British nationality issued by the competent United Kingdom authority; or
