5 p.m.: Meeting with Mr. Alfred Schulz, member of the Parliament
of Schleswig-Holstein.
Like Mr. Schumann he expressed great
concern about Hong Kong and will support Mr. Schumann at the
meeting on May 31. He will furthermore bring our case to the attention of Schleswig-Holstein's Ministerpraesident Holtenberg. His country is not opposed to a quota increase. Present at the
meeting were 3 of his advisers.
Saturday, May 10: At 12 noon I was interviewed by Mr. Holger Hofmann who is responsible for a programme of the Norddeutsche Rundfunk which runs under the title: From Tahiti to Hamburg.
He made 2 recordings: one on Hong Kong's refugees and a second one about Hong Kong's sucessful fight against drug abuse in which,
he believes, many will be interested.
Bonn, May 12-14 (Appendix 9)
12.5.80 - 9 a.m.: Meeting at the FDP-Headquarters with Mr. Möllemann
MdB (FDP), chairman of the Bundestag Unterausschusses fuer
Humanitäre Hilfe plus 2 staff members. Mr. Möllemann is very concerned about a number of inadequacies regarding German government procedures, rivalries between Auswärtiges Amt and Ministerium des Innern, the growing rejection of "foreigners" coming into Germany. He thinks that Hong Kong's action to send us to Europe has been
timely and will help. He asked me to mobilize the churches. He
himself will discuss our case at the next meeting of his committee
and also with Mr. Genscher.
11 a.m.:
Meeting at the Auswärtige Amt with Dr. Bartels, Referent fuer lumanitäre Hilfe, and his adviser, Mrs. Günther. Dr. Bartels claims that he knows all about Hong Kong and our problems through the Embassy, UNHCR and Hong Kong's German Consul-General, etc. He showed me the letter of Dr. Schober and Prof. Hüssler which Mr.
Genscher asked him to draft a reply.
