Thank you for your letter of 3 December about

Indo-Chinese refugees in South East Asia. I welcome

this opportunity to sum up our Government's

position on this subject which continues to cause

us and other countries great concern.

Since 1975 we have taken some twelve and a half

thousand refugees from Indo-China, and over ten

thousand of them since the Geneva Conference

in July 1979. The resettlement programme is going

ahead steadily, but it would be wrong to conceal the

fact that we are facing practical difficulties,

particularly over housing and employment for
