The numbers under detention represents the number of Vietnamese

refugees who have been settled in China before coming to Hong Kong

illegally.

2. 7,626 refugeeshave arrived since 1st January, 1980. The increase

of 190 since 23rd July is due to the arrival of five small boats.

3. UNHCR has resettled 22,912 refugees since 1st January of which 716

in the past six days.
