The numbers under detention represents the number of Vietnamese Refugees who have been settled in China before coming to Hong Kong illegally.

8,143 refugees have arrived since 1 January 1980. The increase of 517 since 29 July is due to the arrival of twenty-one small boats.

UNHCR has resettled 23,305 refugees since 1 January of which 393 in the past week.
