Introduction

On 24th June 1980, after having considered memorandum XCC(80)84, the Council advised and the Governor ordered;

(a) that the Pneumoconiosis (Compensation) Bill 1980, at

Annex A to the memorandum, should be introduced into the Legislative Council; and

(b) that the Pneumoconiosis (Compensation) (Computation of Earnings) Regulations 1980 and the Pneumoconiosis (Compensation) (Assessment of Levy) Regulations 1980, at Annexes B and C to the memorandum, should be approved in principle, to be submitted to Members to be made after the Bill referred to in (a) above has passed into law.

Pneumoconiosis (Compensation) Bill 1980

The Pneumoconiosis (Compensation) Bill 1980 was passed by the Legislative Council on 23rd July 1980, subject to committee stage amendments increasing the levels of compensation in accordance with the revised levels of compensation in the Workmen's Compensation (Amendment) Ordinance 1980, and received the Governor's consent on 24th July 1980. These amendments to the Ordinance do not however affect the Regulations to be made.

Members will be asked to advise, under section 47 of the Pneumoconiosis (Compensation) Ordinance (No 51/80), whether the Pneumoconiosis (Compensation) (Computation of Earnings) Regulations 1980 and the Pneumoconiosis (Compensation) (Assessment of Levy) Regulations 1980 should be made.
