to ATLA who were clearly according high priority to
the needs of the liong Kong public and the deficiencies
of the existing service, certain of which (notably
unpunctuality and unavailability of seats) were said
inter alia to be attributable to the service of
intermediate destinations and/or destinations beyond
Hong Kong.
2.2.
The basis and approach of BCAL's application
before ATLA were in this respect modified before CAA in the London/Hong Kong applications in that, on the first
morning of the hearing, this application was filed and, although initially described simply as "filed in perfection of an objection" to the British Airways ("B.A.") Manila licence, it became apparent from the evidence of
BCAL's witnesses that the intention or ambition of BCAL
was to develop a network of Far Eastern routes out of
Gatwick Airport.

BCAL remained (as it was before ATLA) prepared and
proffered on the basis of an end-to-end service London/
Hong Kong.
2.3.
If BCAL is successful in the London/Hong Kong
applications, whether as sole licensee or with an additional carrier, HG will object to this application
to vary their London/Bahrain/Singapore on the grounds
that:
(a)
the application demonstrates the intention of BCAL, and affords it the opportunity, to fly
the London/llong Kong route simply as part of
