2.6 From Table 2 it can be seen that the total peak-hour passenger

ridership crossing the screenline and passing/arriving at Admir- alty MTR Station is 39,000. Traffic congestion causes some late-running with the result that some bus and tram trips cannot be operated, thus forcing intending passengers

to wait longer

than normal for a vehicle to pick them up. A programme of

effective measures to enable buses and trams to run on time (e.g. bus and tram only lanes) would enable excessive waiting

times to be avoided.

2.7 West of Admiralty, actual passenger loadings decrease

We

as does the capacity supplied because of the transfer facility on to

the MTR for journeys across the harbour.

A passenger's choice of mode is sensitive to such factors as

overall journey time, comfort and fare. It is possible there-

fore that some of the pressure for public transport westbound

in the morning peak through Wanchai to Admiralty could be relieved if more buses were operated across the harbour from North Point and Causeway Bay and if there were a greater difference between the bus fare and the MTR fare.
