Explanatory Note

Part XIA of the Dangerous Goods (General)

Regulations deals with dangerous goods in freight

containers.

These amendment regulations amend

Part XIA to allow greater flexibility in the handling

at container terminals of freight containers containing

dangerous goods within reasonable safety time limits.

The periods for which such freight containers may be

stored at an approved container terminal, and the

period allowed for unpacking containers in which

dangerous goods are packed with other goods, are

extended. At the same time container terminal operators

are required to maintain records showing the movement

of dangerous goods through their terminals.

These amendment regulations will come into

operation on 27 October 1980.
