Sir Ian Gilmour: This information is not readily available, and could not be provided without disproportionate cost.
Mr. Michael Brown asked the Lord Privy Seal if he will withdraw eligibility for free medical treatment from those diplomats representing countries with whom the United Kingdom has no social security convention, and from those countries with whom the terms of the conventions exclude free education for the United Kingdom's diplomatic staff.
Sir Ian Gilmour: No. The eligibility of foreign diplomats for medical treat- ment under the National Health Service and to education in maintained schools is not related to social security provisions.

Mr. Onslow asked the Lord Privy Seal how many of the non-industrial staff of his Department were absent without auth- ority on 14 May; how many of these hold politically sensitive posts; and if he will take steps to transfer those officials in the latter category to work where op- position to Government policy does not

Departmental Circulars
Dr. Mawhinney asked the Lord Privy Seal how many circulars and other forms of general guidance his Department issued during the months January to April in 1978, 1979 and 1980.
Mr. Hurd: One circular letter in 1978 and one in 1979, sent to approximately 120 people in each year.
Departmental Staff
Mr. Wrigglesworth asked the Lord Privy Seal if any of the 425 staff savings in his Department and the 235 in Overseas Development Administration announced on 6 December 1979 have yet been made; and, if not, when he expects them to be|

Mr. Hurd: Yes. I would refer the hon. Member to the reply which I gave my hon. Friend the Member for Brigg and Scunthorpe (Mr. Brown) on 16 April. [Vol. 982, c. 732.]
Mr. Wrigglesworth asked the Lord Privy Seal in which divisions, at what grades and in what geographical area the 478 posts by which the staff in posts in his Department contracted between 1 April 1979 and 1 April 1980 were em- ployed.
Mr. Hurd: The staff-in-post figures for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Diplomatic Service (including the Overseas Development Administration) were 12,039 on 1 April 1979 and 11,565 on 1 April 1980, a contraction of 474 posts. The contraction occurred mainly in the clerical and secretarial grades prin- cipally in London.
Chile (Arms Embargo)
Mr. Teddy Taylor asked the Lord Privy Seal if, in view of the fact that France and Germany are supplying arms and spare parts to the Government of Chile which are covered by the British arms embargo, Her Majesty's Government will review the arms embargo on the supply of arms to Chile and, in particular, the ban on the supply of spare parts for the Daring class destroyers which were supplied to Chile by British shipyards.

policy towards Chile, the embargo on
