HONG KONG: ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE TO THE UK
1. I should be grateful if you would let me have an assessment of the importance of Hong Kong to the UK in terms of:
(a) bilateral trade;
(b) trade with China;
(c) investment;
(d) invisible earnings;
(e) extent of present and likely future ECGD commitments.
2. I should also be grateful for an assessment of the importance for the Chinese economy of the foreign exchange it earns from Hong Kong.
