1. Richard Samuel, my landlord, has just let me know that he would like to occupy his house in March next year. I would therefore wish to make my month's visit to Hong Kong, which has already been approved in principle, in March. I should be grateful for your approval to my taking leave from 2 to 28 March, amounting altogether to 15 days leave since I shall be on duty for one week whilst in Hong Kong.

2. There is one other point which I would like to be considered (I have already mentioned it briefly to Mr Morrice) and that is whether it would be possible to include Peking in my visit. would not normally be allowed to go there but both Mr Morrice and Mr Webb have done so. It would, I believe, be a very valuable experience for me, indeed a chance of a lifetime. such a trip were agreed, my wife would wish to go with me but I would pay her expenses.
