17. We fully support the Hong Kong Government in their humane

policies towards the Vietnamese boat refugees.

PROPOSED NEW AIRPORT

18. We are not aware of the Chinese authorities having approved

the construction of an airport in Guangdong Province to serve

Hong Kong. HMG have had no discussions with the Chinese

authorities on this subject. The Hong Kong Government have

commissioned their own study on a replacement airport, and any

further consideration must await receipt of the consultant's

report later this year.
