measures undertaken by an independent Commission; the Governor was criticised at the time for modifying the Commission's actions, but events have since proved that his actions averted administrative breakdown. The Governor is also concerned with the continuing problem of the Vietnamese "Boat People", and recently visited several cities, including Geneva and London, to discuss the problem.

At the end of September/Mr Blaker, Minister of State at the FCO, announced during a visit to Hong Kong that the Governor's term of office had been extended for the fourth time until 1982 (he was due to leave Hong Kong in

April 1980.

The Governor's recreations are listed in "Who's Who" as sailing and fishing. He is approximately 6 feet 4 inches tall.
